The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) , Esteban Lazo Hernández , today expressed his condolences for the death of the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli .
In a letter sent to the Hon. Ms. Roberta Metsola, Vice President of the European Parliament, and published on the ANPP website, the head of the Cuban parliament lamented the loss of the Italian official, who died at 65 years of age.
Lazo Hernández highlighted that Sassoli dedicated his life to parliamentary work and promoting the links of the European Parliament with other parliaments in the world.
He also extended, on behalf of the deputies, his condolences to his family and friends of the European parliamentarian.
David Maria Sassoli, president of the European Parliament since July 3, 2019, died at dawn this Tuesday due to problems in the operation of his immune system.
The Italian journalist and politician is the first high-ranking European president to die while in office.
