England manager Gareth Southgate has hinted that Luke Shaw might be available for Manchester United against Everton on Saturday lunchtime.
The former Southampton player has been included in the latest Three Lions squad that was announced on Thursday, despite being forced off against Aston Villa.
Shaw missed out on the last-gasp midweek victory over Villarreal in the Champions League.
Alex Telles played and scored at left-back in his absence – but while Shaw was initially expected to be included on the bench, the 26-year-old was omitted from the matchday squad altogether as Cristiano Ronaldo conjured up late heroics at Old Trafford.
United return to Premier League action at the same venue on Saturday afternoon (12.30pm).
Southgate, meanwhile, spoke about Shaw and his condition after releasing details of an England squad that sees United captain Harry Maguire miss out through injury.
Shaw has been included, though, for two impending World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.
During his press conference, Southgate said: “Clearly they are still to appear for their clubs, so there’s an element of the unknown with that, but our understanding is that Mason and Reece [James] have a good chance going into the weekend.

“We will have to track that. I think Luke’s was more of an illness than anything else. That was our understanding. We don’t play until next Saturday, our first game, so there’s a bit of time and we will know more as this week progresses on all of those situations.”
Assessing his chances pre-Villarreal, his club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Luke has been in today, so I’ll give him a chance to be involved, he didn’t train with the team. So maybe the best-case scenario is he will join us on the bench.”
