Google already added a floating screen mode to the Gboard in 2018. In practice, it allows to detach the keyboard and move it to any part of the screen. However, that was it. All because for two years we had no news again. Now everything has changed. It’s just that Google has started testing a new redesign on the Gboard and changes at the level of translations.
Gboard: There’s a new redesign you’ll love! Have you seen it?
The new floating keyboard on the Gboard has already started to appear to some users. Right from the start it has a rounder design. As we see in the screenshots, the drag button has also been integrated into the window that floats more perfectly, and no longer stands out at the bottom. These design changes are in line with the latest updates that Google is releasing for other apps such as XDA
.
Until here we had a design like the one shown in the image below.
Google has also started testing a redesigned interface for Gboard’s translation functionality. The language picker is rounded and features larger texts, and the text input field is now enclosed in a bubble.
In addition, Google has added a new add button to the app’s dictionary. The button appears when Gboard thinks we made a mistake or it’s an unknown word. Tapping on it we add the word to the personal dictionary. Unlike the other two changes mentioned above, the new button was first seen by the GoogleNews Telegram channel.
As mentioned before, these changes have already started to appear to some Gboard users. However, we should have a broader release in the coming days.
Meanwhile Google has released 1500 new Emoji Kitchen stickers on the Gboard, support for smart clipboard suggestions and image sharing, and smart compositing for non-Pixel smartphones.
