Hugo Lloris set to sign new Tottenham contract

Hugo Lloris is set to sign a new two-year contract with Tottenham, 90min understands.

The Frenchman’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, though his performances so far this term have been brilliant as Spurs look to maintain their top four charge.

90min now understands that talks between Tottenham and Lloris have progressed very well despite only starting recently. Manager Antonio Conte gave the green light for fresh talks with the World Cup winner, having been impressed by his form. Spurs also recently missed out on Inter-bound Andre Onana.

Lloris’ recent form has played a big role in Spurs’ decision to tie him down to a new contract. He has kept eight Premier League clean sheets so far this campaign, sitting behind only Ederson, Alisson and Aaron Ramsdale in the list of keepers with the most.

Spurs had previously looked at West Brom’s Sam Johnstone as a potential replacement, while Pierluigi Gollini was brought in on loan from Atalanta in the summer to provide competition for the number one jersey.

Lloris was seen charging up the pitch during Tottenham’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Leicester on Wednesday night as Spurs moved within a point of fourth place West Ham with three games in hand.

The 35-year-old signed for Tottenham in 2012 and is closing in on 400 appearances for the north London side. While silverware has evaded him during his time in England, he has reached two League Cup finals as well as a Champions League final.

In other transfer news in north London, Tottenham have had a bid rejected for winger Adama Traore.

90min understands Conte is eager to bring the Spain international in and convert him into a right wing-back, but their first offer to Wolves has been rejected as it didn’t total their £22m valuation.
