Eine starke Nachfrage nach Cloud-Software und IT-Services hat dem Computer-Urgestein IBM sein größtes Umsatzplus seit Jahren beschert.
In den drei Monaten bis Ende Dezember legten die Erlöse verglichen mit dem Vorjahreszeitraum um 6,5 Prozent auf 16,7 Milliarden Dollar (14,8 Mrd Euro) zu, wie das Unternehmen am Montag nach US-Börsenschluss in Armonk mitteilte. Unter dem Strich verdiente IBM 2,3 Milliarden Dollar und damit gut eine Milliarde mehr als vor einem Jahr. Damals hatte das Quartalsergebnis allerdings auch stark unter hohen Kosten für den Konzernumbau gelitten.
IBM bemüht sich seit Jahren um eine Neuaufstellung, im November erst war ein großer auf IT-Infrastruktur ausgerichteter Konzernbereich unter dem Namen Kyndryl abgespalten worden. IBM setzt unterdessen auf neuere Geschäftsfelder wie Beratungs- und Analysedienste sowie Cloud-Services und künstliche Intelligenz.
Bei Anlegern kamen die Quartalszahlen gut an: An der NYSE ging es für die IBM-Aktie um 5,65 Prozent auf 136,10 US-Dollar nach oben.
Im Gesamtjahr 2021 erhöhte IBM den Umsatz um rund vier Prozent auf 57,4 Milliarden Dollar. Der Nettogewinn nahm um knapp drei Prozent auf 5,7 Milliarden Dollar zu.
