Gogglebox is back on screens giving us all something to look forward to each week even as the days grow shorter and the nights draw in.

While we adore all the families that take part in the show, each of the households only ever appear on screens individually.

So it is fantastic to discover that some of the Gogglebox families are friends outside of the show.

A little digging quickly revealed that Sid Siddiqui and cast mate Dave Griffiths share a sweet off screen bond.

Sid, who usually is seen with his sons, and Dave, who appears with his wife Shirley, have been seen being pally to each other on social media suggesting an off screen friendship.

Sharing a photo of his garden on Instagram, Sid wrote: “Love this time of year in my garden #tranquil,”

The photo was quickly complimented by fans including fellow Goggleboxer, Dave Griffiths.

Dave replied: “Gardens lovely Sid, must be a pleasure to sit outside.”

To show his approval, Sid retweeted the message to his own followers, adding: “Thank you Dave, Shirley, Mrs S and I love spending time in the garden love to see plants and flowers blooming I think the weather lately has helped a lot.”

The pair also exchanged some messages on Twitter after Dave shared a snap of himself looking unrecognisable with a goatee after using an app filter.

He wrote: “I feel like a fraud, what I meant was shaving my head it’s an app that shows what you would look like bald, they just throw the goatee in for fun, the funny thing is you all think I’m already bald #Gogglebox… great.”

Sid then replied to the tweet, writing: “That’s good advice, shave your head and grow a beard, I am going to do that when my hair falls out soon.

“I guess if you grow your beard long enough you could train it to sit on top of your head like a hair bun.”

The new series kicked off last week with notable absences following the sad deaths of Andy Michael, Pete McGarry and Mary Cook whose families subsequently decided not to take part in this series.

Speaking to Daily Star, the show’s executive producer Victoria Ray said: “We have had people from the show pass away recently. We lost Mary and Andy, and a little while ago we lost Pete.

“Their loved ones won’t be taking part in the show for the moment. Understandably, they want their privacy.”

Gogglebox continues Friday’s at 9pm on Channel 4.
