Just in time for the Pixel Watch: Wear OS rotates display content

Wear OS 3

Here and there, Wear OS still lacks features that actually sound almost self-evident. This includes the rotation of the display content, which has been desired for years. There is good news.

Google is working on its own Wear OS watch and seems to be listening to the community too. Sometimes only after a few years. Both are now quite close together, with Google implementing a required feature for Wear OS. This could then also be applied for the new and first Pixel Watch – if it finally comes out this year.

In fact the Wear OS team is currently developing a feature so that the display contents can also be displayed upside down can be displayed. This is good for people who want to wear their watch the other way around for some reason or prefer to wear it on their right arm.

Innovation will probably only come to future devices

For example, if I wear the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 on my left arm, the two hardware buttons point to the wrist. Some might be interested that the buttons are on the other side and wear the watch differently. It is also interesting on the right arm if I would like to wear the watch there with buttons on the wrist as well. I have to turn them for that.

For the options mentioned, the Rotate display content by 180 degrees, but Wear OS doesn’t support that. At least not yet. Users have been asking for this function since 2018 and now it is finally about to be implemented. This is confirmed by the developers who made the display rotation for “future new devices” from Wear OS to announce. This excludes older devices.
