Kamindu Mendis overtakes Gavaskar in elite Test

Sri Lanka batter Kamindu Mendis registered his eighth fifty-plus score in Tests during Day 1 of the first Test against NZ.

He became the player to register most successive 50-plus scores in Test matches from debut.

He surpassed Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel who scored seven consecutive 50 plus scores since debut earlier this year.

Former New Zealand cricketer Bert Sutcliffe is on third spot with six 50 plus scores.

Former Pakistan batter Saeed Ahmed also had six consecutive fifty plus scores after his debut.

West Indies batter Basil Butcher also achieved the feat on six occasions after his debut.

Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar also had six successive 50 plus scores after his debut.
