In the decade of the 2000s the sisters Rocío, Pilar, Lola and Lucía, daughters of flamenco guitarist Juan ‘El Tomate’ Muñoz, achieved international success with the group Las Ketchup, name with which they honored their father and became one of the most important female Spanish pop groups in the autonomous community of Andalusia, in Spain.
His career was short-lived, but the success of Aserejé, included in their first album Daughters of tomato, was enough to take them for tours around the world, including Mexico. In 2006 they released the album Un Blodymary, which did not fare as well as their material debut, where from a trio they became a quartet due to the incorporation of Rocío.The success of Las Ketchup In 2002, the song Aserejé reached the radio, surprisingly fast with which it climbed to the number one position in more than twenty countries, as well as how sticky it was. The theme was his first and only success, transferred to languages such as Portuguese and English, although the latter was also combined with Spanish.
The single sold more than eight million copies and the video showed the sisters dancing a choreography with their arms and hands that who grew up in those years I can probably still remember. The composer was Manuel Ruiz Queco and with it they won two Billboard Latin Awards for best tropical-salsa song by a group and for best new generation pop album thanks to Daughters of the Tomato, in 2003. However, they were soon accused of being ‘satanists’ by those who did not understand the chorus of the song which they said was an invitation to heresy. Although they denied this at all costs, their career did not stand out again and they moved away from the stage for a few years. What happened with Las Ketchup? After the rest and musical inactivity the sisters dedicated themselves to other important aspects of their lives such as dedicating time to becoming mothers or following their dreams , some far from the stages. Rocío became pregnant, the main reason why she was not part of the initial stage of the group. Pilar dedicated her efforts to her passion for acting, while Lucía took flamenco to a hairdressing business in where he had the opportunity to sing to his clients while cutting their hair. The other member, Lola, finished her degree in Work Sciences at the university. In 2016, the sisters returned to the stage a decade after the release of their latest album. Nothing was ever the same for them and they sporadically meet for events. That year they were invited to the Melodifestivalen music festival in Gothenburg, Sweden. The following year they were part of the Pa’l Norte, in Monterrey, Mexico, as a surprise group. In March 2019 they performed on the French program Touche Pas à Mon Poste and at the end of 2021 the group supported the Polish soldiers displaced to the border with Belarus due to the migration crisis. . Every once in a while they activate their social networks like 8 weeks ago, when they showed up to sing in their native Spain.
