Like a Dragon Gaiden Gameplay Overview Detailed By Developers

Enter Joryu

In a few months, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will be releasing Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. This will be the story that fills in the gap between Yakuza 6: Song of Life and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Yesterday, RGG Studio gave us a better look at what to anticipate.

The stories of each of the Like a Dragon games are usually pretty convoluted; full of mystery and drama. You can speculate what will happen going off the new trailer, but get ready to be hit with a secret brother or some other twist.

Like a Dragon Gaiden

When it comes to gameplay, it looks like it will be closer to what we expect from a Kiryu game, rather than the turn-based combat from Yakuza: Like a Dragon. RGG Studio showed off two combat styles for Like a Dragon Gaiden. The first is Agent Style. Kiryu uses speed and slick gadgets to take out his enemies in Agent Style. The second is Yakuza Style, which is more of a street brawler technique.

There is also a team-based arena, where Kiryu can put together a group of fighters to dominate cage matches. Cabaret also returns, but this time the girls are portrayed in FMV sequences. For the first time, players can customize Kiryu’s clothing. Selections include shoes, glasses, hats, and suits. On top of all that, Karaoke, Billiards, Batting Cage, retro Sega games, and Pocket Racers return.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be coming out on November 9th. It will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
