LoL Arena Win rates – a dive into the numbers

Unlike the traditional Summoner’s Rift, there are extra metrics used to measure a champion’s power in LoL Arena. Since players earn points when finishing in the top two, champions have both the 1st place win rate as well as the top 2 win rate.

Having a high 1st place win rate doesn’t always mean the champion is the strongest, even though the two metrics are usually correlated. In order to understand which champions are the best in Arena, we have to consider both numbers, as well as the pick rate (and ban rate). In general, a champion with a high pick rate or high ban rate paired with a high 1st or top 2 win rate should be in the top parts of the LoL Arena tier list.

Taking an example

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the champions with the highest 1st place win rates and understand which are typically stronger. Data is taken from U.GG on December 12, 2023:

  1. Gwen
    • Pick rate: 9.2%
    • 1st place rate: 33.2%
    • top 2 rate: 56%
  2. Kayn – 32.6%
    • Pick rate: 15.8%
    • 1st place rate: 32.6%
    • top 2 rate: 56.1%
  3. Kayle – 31.7%
    • Pick rate: 7.3%
    • 1st place rate: 31.7%
    • top 2 rate: 51.4%
  4. Trundle
    • Pick rate: 13.3%
    • 1st place rate: 31.6%
    • top 2 rate: 61.2%
  5. Elise
    • Pick rate: 1.1%
    • 1st place rate: 31.5%
    • top 2 rate: 55.9%

As you can see, Elise, despite having the 5th-highest first-place rate, only has a 1.1% pick rate. Compared to the other four picks on the list, she is not as popular and her top two rate is only around 55%. Kayle has a similar case with a higher pick rate. That said, she’s the type of champion that either wins the lobby or finishes in the bottom two.

If we take a look at Kayn, Gwen, and Trundle, on the other hand, the numbers are much better. In particular, Trundle and Kayn have high pick rates with equally high top-two rates, showing that players choose these picks a lot more and have more success. And despite Gwen having the highest 1st place rate, she should be considered a tier slightly below the aforementioned two.

To understand which picks work best, always consider all numbers. Also, try to understand the synergy between the various champions as well as the best augments for each pick. We have chosen some of the best team comps for LoL Arena for you to check out, but there are many more combinations on the rise. Just like the 5v5 mode, the LoL Arena meta always changes so learn how to find the right counter strategies and team comps.
