Lukaku situation resolved for now after crisis talks with boss Tuchel

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku will remain with the club for at least another year, according to Sky Sports

The Belgian had caused controversy this week after an interview with Italian media, unauthorised by Chelsea, was aired in which the player admitted he wasn’t happy at the club.

The striker, who returned to SW6 over the summer for £100 million having initially left the club in 2014, didn’t start all of the Blues’ games at the start of the season, and then missed several matches due to an injury sustained in the Champions League.

In the wake of the revelations, Tuchel decided to axe Lukaku from his squad to face Liverpool, a decision that was in part justified after the Blues’ promising performance in their 2-2 draw with the Reds.

Now, after crisis talks on Monday, it appears that the issue between Lukaku and Tuchel has been resolved.

According to the report, Lukaku will not leave the club in either of the next two transfer windows.

The Belgium international had been linked with a move back to Inter Milan, who he left to join Chelsea in the summer, having admitted in the interview that he is keen on a return to the Italian side.

Now, however, Lukaku has apparently admitted that the interview was a mistake, although he is said to be ‘surprised’ at the backlash he has received from supporters and pundits alike.

Lukaku has scored eight goals in 17 appearances for Chelsea since returning, but boasts a staggering record of scoring 146 goals in 300 appearances for West Bromwich Albion, Manchester United and Everton.

The 28-year-old also scored 47 goals in 72 Serie A games during his time in Italy, winning the league title last term.

Lukaku will reportedly return to the Chelsea squad for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
