The son of a former Major League Baseball star was found dead with his eight-year-old son in apparent murder-suicide just two weeks after police had searched his house in connection with the 2019 disappearance of the boy’s mother.

George Scott III, 53, was found dead shortly after 8 a.m. at his New Bedford, Massachusetts home when police had received a request to do a wellness check.

They arrived to both Scott and 8-year-old Dante’s bodies lying dead on the ground.

A spokesman for the local district attorney said that they believed Scott killed the boy – who was living with him – before taking his own life.

DA Thomas Quinn said they found several knives at the scene that they took in as evidence.

Scott III is the son of the late Boston Red Sox player George Scott, who hit 271 home runs across a 14-year career in the majors.

The younger Scott had tried to become a professional ballplayer as well, going through various minor league teams in the 1990s.

‘One of the best athletes I’ve ever seen,’ Scott III said of his father. ‘He could have got drafted by the NBA and the NFL. Baseball was the ‘least best’ sport he played. He was definitely a legend.’

The 8-year-old boy is the son of Lisa Hazard, a woman who went missing back in March of 2019, according to the Boston Globe.

A spokesperson for the Bristol County DA said that Scott was considered a person of interest in her disappearance.

‘This, obviously, is a tragic situation that may be a development in the case but we’ve got to review the evidence in this case,’ Quinn said, referencing both cases.

Just two weeks earlier, the district attorney’s office had executed a search warrant at the same home.

According to a Facebook page hoping to find Hazard, she was last seen after leaving her mother’s home in Fall River on March 5, 2019.

‘This group was created in hopes that it will provide more information on Lisa and get her back home. It is very unlike of her to not contact her family, especially her son who is her whole world,’ the page said.

Family members said in 2019 that Hazard was in recovery from drug addiction but had become erratic.

‘She started missing important dates, like my mom’s birthday or her son’s birthday or Mother’s Day, and that’s really uncharacteristic of Lisa because she has always been all about the family, especially her son,’ her brother Steven toldNBC 10last October.

The man found dead with her 8-year-old son was not mentioned in the story.

Scott III was last heard from in 2021, when he was presenting an NFT collection that featured his father, a member of the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.

He’d also launched a Twitter page for a podcast called Boomer’s Base, referencing his late father’s nickname. No episodes appear to have been released.
