May the 4th is here again—so save your credits for this Star Wars merch

It’s now Star Wars day once again, or so they say: Yes, we’re talking about that genius marketing ploy to rebrand May the 4th based on a pun—well, it’s not even a pun, really, but it sounds similar enough to elicit a smirk.

Some Star Wars fans might long for a bygone era when the franchise wasn’t so commercialized as to have its own holiday, but if they’re honest with themselves, Star Wars was always somewhere on that spectrum.

Still, the generational appeal of the universe George Lucas launched back in the late 1970s is as strong as ever—as is the creativity of the people making Star Wars tie-in gags and products that might remind you of your favorite film set in that universe. (Which is, of course, The Empire Strikes Backwe’re sure. Or maybe Rogue One? We can be confident it isn’t Attack of the Clones or Rise of Skywalkerat any rate.)

And there is some benefit to May 4 beyond its meme-y origins: Collectors of Star Wars stuff can nab some fun items at a discount. Yes, Disney will make some money—and if you follow these links, Ars will, too—but it’s a potential win-win-win, or at least a win-win.
