Fresh off a June album release, Megan Thee Stallion is already gearing up for more. On Sunday (Sept. 1), she announced her upcoming single, “Neva Play,” featuring RM from BTS. The collaboration will be dropping on Friday (Sept. 6).
“This is one of my favorite RM verses I’ve heard! I’ve never heard him rap in this style before,” the Texas rapper captioned her post, along with the track’s illustration-style artwork. Some fans also spotted a possible easter egg: Megan’s drawing was seen holding seven dollar bills — a speculative nod to BTS consisting of seven members.
“Father of K-pop and mother of Hip Hop [are] coming to drop the sickest song of the year,” read one eager reply. Another said, “Two hotties in one frame.” Peep the cover below.
K-pop and rap crossovers are a formula for success, as evidenced by Latto and Jung Kook’s “Seven.” The record made her the first rapper to land at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, with the visual companion having amassed over 429 million YouTube views. The BTS artist saw similar success with the Jack Harlow-assisted “3D.”
Meanwhile, Megan already has a history of working with international acts. Her “Mamushi,” which peaked at No. 36 on the aforementioned chart, featured Japanese artist Yuki Chiba. The pair shot the accompanying music video in Tokyo, with director Kevin “Onda” Leyva at the helm. It kicked off at the Tsurumaki Onsen Jinya for a spa scene before shifting to the Engaku-ji Temple for the dramatic second half.
MEGAN contained many other surefire cuts, including “Spin” featuring Victoria Monét, “B.A.S.” — or “Both Ain’t S**t” with Kyle Richh, and “Cobra.” Additional guest appearances came from UGK, GloRilla, Big K.R.I.T., and Buddah Bless.
It’s also worth noting that “BOA” from the project is up for four awards at the 2024 MTV VMAs, which Megan will host on Sept. 11.
