Messi decides the prestige duel against Manchester City for PSG – Sheriff and Bruges surprise

Now Lionel Messi has finally arrived in Paris. In the 73rd minute, the Argentine made it 2-0 for Paris Saint-Germain – Messi’s 121st goal in the Champions League, the first he did not score for FC Barcelona. Everything looked the same as always, only the jersey was different. The stupendous technique, the precision, the casualness – that’s how he decided the prestige duel with Manchester City and thus the game against Pep Guardiola, the coach who made Messi the footballer who is so unique during their years together at Barça.

It was a deceptive result, it was clearer than it was the game: Already in the In the eighth minute, midfielder Idrissa Gueye scored for Paris, massive, precise, a breathtaking goal. But then the game belonged entirely to the Citizens. Paris Saint-Germain, sworn to counterattack by coach Mauricio Pochettino, hardly got a chance, as Manchester almost never lost the ball, and if the worst came to the worst, they usually got it back.

And there was the scene in the 26th minute that stunned: Raheem Sterling came from the shortest distance to the header. He heaved the ball against the crossbar of Paris Saint-Germain. A big chance, but then Bernardo Silva had a depressing appearance: Silva was ready to use the rebound, but he also only hit the crossbar from two meters.

It should have been the compensation for Manchester City, which was last in excellent shape. The Citizens recently defeated the Champions League winners Chelsea 1-0, the rival had no chance in the Premier League match. City was also favored against Paris Saint-Germain, the Harlem globetrotters of world football.

And City actually seemed more agreeable and committed, but with increasing duration, perhaps the greatest revealed itself Shortcoming that evening: The English only knew one rhythm, which Paris gradually adjusted to in the second half, although the field team looked far less glamorous than the names in the attack suggested. On the other hand, PSG showed a quality that the Citizens have not only lacked since yesterday: efficiency.
