Miss Brasil Mundo, Caroline Teixeira, started a fundraising campaign on the internet, through the website “Ajudaê”
, to buy an electroneuromyography device for the Santa Marcelina hospital, a reference in the care of people with leprosy in Porto Velho.
In justification of the action, Caroline points out that Rondônia has epidemiological and operational indicators that express the proportion of the disease, which ranks 16th in the leprosy detection coefficient in Brazil, classifying itself as a state with very high risk, according to parameters of the Ministry of Health.
“In this context, the acquisition of the device for the Leprosy program at the Santa Marcelina hospital is presented as an important tool to qualify the care provided, having in view, the expressive increase in cases of pure neural type leprosy. As the Santa Marcelina hospital is a reference, and also serves some municipalities in addition to the state of Rondônia, the scope of use of the device and its impact on the population are positive, emphasizing that more complex cases are referred to the institution”, he detailed she.
The action of Miss Brazil, who is also an ambassador for Leprosy, was highlighted on the social networks of the Movement for the Reintegration of People Afflicted by Leprosy (Morhan). The movement is a national reference when the subject is the disease in the country.
HOSPITAL
Hospital Santa Marcelina began in 1950 when the governor of the territory until then built the colony of people affected by leprosy in order to compulsorily shelter patients.
In 1975, the “Sisters Marcelinas” took over the administration. With great difficulty and great challenges, health care services were expanded. Since then, the hospital has been a reference in the care of people affected by leprosy in the State, as it offers outpatient care and hospitalization.
The unit performs its care in early diagnosis, timely and interdisciplinary treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of disabilities and investigation of contacts to break the dynamics of disease transmission.
