The spokesperson Russian presidential president, Dmitri Peskov, assured today that the latest actions of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) against his country obstruct the restoration of bilateral dialogue.
He stated that the decision of the Atlantic Alliance to expel eight Russian representatives to that military bloc and their accusations of ‘hostile activities’ compromise completely the prospects of normalizing relationships.
Peskov considered that there is an obvious contradiction in NATO’s statements about his desire to improve ties with Moscow.
“These actions do not allow us to have any illusions about the possibility of normalizing relations,” Peskov said. He added that rather than improving conditions, ‘rather they undermine such prospects almost completely,’ reported the news agency Sputnik .
On the subject, the vice-chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Council of the Federation (Senate) of Russia, Vladimir Dzhabárov, stated that the country could minimize NATO representation in Moscow as a response measure.
‘NATO has its representation in Moscow, there are several officers there. We will respond appropriately. The Russian side has the right to minimize its mission, ‘he told Russia 24 television channel. According to the senator, relations between the parties are going through a period of ice.
