The Slovak woman continues her series of successes at the foot of the Planai. Katharina Liensberger is eighth.
The annoyance of Kranjska Gora is gone, the anticipation for the premiere under Schladming floodlights was great among the best slalom riders in the world. In the fourth race of 2022 on Tuesday evening they finally had normal and good conditions again, on the legendary men’s slope at the foot of the Planai – even if they did not contest it in full, the start house was moved a few meters down. The slalom dominator of the season remained true to herself in the seventh competition: Petra Vlhova, who previously had five wins and a second place (in Killington behind Mikaela Shiffrin ), wanted to grab the chance to win the small crystal ball early and showed that with the best time in the first round (45.28 seconds). “I didn’t have a good feeling, but I’m leading. It was a good run, even if I made a few mistakes, ”said the 26-year-old Slovakian and praised the“ perfect slope ”. Up the places: the German Lena Dürr (+0.27) as well as the Swiss Wendy Holdener and the Canadian Ali Nullmeyer (+0.35 each). Shiffrin’s team-mate Paula Moltzan caused a surprise: she fell in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora and injured on the knee and previously injured on the right hand, she was only five hundredths behind the record World Cup winner in sixth place. After her threader in the Kranjska Gora slalom, Mikaela Shiffrin made small mistakes and was 0.42 seconds behind. That brought the Schladming world champion from 2013 (at that time on the Streicher slope and not on the classic Planai finish slope) 5th place, and she was far better off than Anna Swenn Larsson: The Swede was in the first intermediate time with 0.23 seconds The lead on Vlhova was stopped, but then threaded and stopped cursing loudly.
World Champion Katharina Liensberger was missed after a botched weekend in Kranjska Gora (giant slalom final, Threaders in the slalom) sought redress, but after a few problems had to be content with 0.79 seconds and at the finish shook Vorarlberg’s head about the eighth intermediate rank. “It was definitely not very clean in the steeper area, I also noticed that I couldn’t pull my turns and go to the limit,” said the 24-year-old.
In the absence of the Corona-positive and symptom-free Katharina Truppe, the other Austrians were only able to step into the breach to a limited extent. The Tyrolean Chiara Mair, who was so battered this winter, made a small call sign, who placed 14th, 1.24 seconds behind. Her compatriot Marie-Theres Sporer gave a cheer, finishing eleventh after top intermediate times (+1.08). “While driving it didn’t seem that fast to me, I also had some goals with me that I didn’t even touch,” said the Zillertal woman.
Katharina Huber, on the other hand, conceded 1.60 seconds (22nd place), Katharina Gallhuber lost the thread in the lower part of the track and at the end 2.10 seconds to Petra Vlhova and missed qualifying for the final in 31st place, as did Stephanie Brunner (38./+ 2.45) and Bernadette Lorenz (43./+3.10).
The second round starts at 8.45 p.m.
