North Korea tests hypersonic missile and refuses to dialogue with the US

North Korea has claimed that it successfully tested a new hypersonic missile called the Hwasong-8 on Tuesday. The new missile was one of the “five most important” new weapons systems established in their five-year military development plan.

They called the missile a “strategic weapon,” which which generally means it has nuclear capability.

Tuesday’s launch is another indication of Pyongyang’s burgeoning weapons technology amid tough sanctions.

“The development of this weapon system … the nation’s capabilities for self-defense in every way, “said North Korea’s state news outlet KCNA.

Hypersonic missiles are much faster and more agile than the normal ones, making them much more difficult for missile defense systems to intercept.

North Korea joins a small group of countries, including the United States, Russia, China and India, to try to develop weapons. In July, Russia announced that it had successfully launched a hypersonic missile that reached a speed of 8659.88 km / h (5381 mph) from a frigate in the White Sea.

Rejection of the proposed dialogue

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong One, dismissed the offers of dialogue from the United States as a “front” and accused the administration of President Joe Biden of maintaining hostile policies against them.

Contacts between the two countries initiated under the mandate of Donald Trump they were interrupted in 2019 after the failure in Hanoi (Vietnam) of the second summit between the Republican president and the North Korean leader.

Since their access to the House Blanca, the Joe Biden government has repeatedly offered the isolated communist regime a meeting anywhere, anytime and without preconditions.

Kim condemned these proposals as “nothing more than a facade to mask his disappointment and actions hostiles, and an extension of the hostile policy of previous administrations, “according to the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper.

With Biden,” the US military threat and hostile policy toward us have not changed at all, but have become more malicious, “he said during a lengthy speech to the Supreme People’s Assembly, the country’s one-party parliament.

North Korea, equipped with nuclear weapons, he has let time pass over the past few months, studying the movements of the new US administration while focusing on internal affairs.

Security Council meets urgently

The United Nations Security Council will meet in emergency on Thursday to analyze the situation in North Korea at the request of the United States, France and the United Kingdom, diplomatic sources told AFP.

Pyongyang does not show signs of want to detach withdraw from its arsenal, which it considers necessary to defend itself against the United States.

“The most fundamental crisis that tears apart the basic principles of international peace and stability is the abuse of power and the coercion of the United States and its followers, ”said Kim.

The North Korean leader was more restrained with South Korea, whose president Moon Jae-in proposed this month at the United Nations officially end the war between the two countries (1950-1953), ended with a truce and not a peace treaty.

Kim lamented that Seoul “still follows the United States” and pointed out that, to end the conflict, “mutual respect must be guaranteed and unjust views and double standards must be abandoned.” communication between Seoul and Pyongyang in early October.
