Varadero, Cuba, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister Manuel Marrero expressed optimism today with the upcoming start of the tourist season in Varadero, the main resort in Cuba, a nation that will reopen borders the coming November 15.
Marrero considered it a challenge to start the so-called smokeless industry, amidst limitations caused by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, the situation of the world economy and the Covid-19 pandemic. All this forces, he said, to look for alternative solutions to offer a quality tourism product that satisfies customers’ expectations and motivates them to return to their destination. On the subject of marketing, the senior official called for greater aggressiveness in an area in need of innovation, employing new sales methods from social networks, and warned about strengthening the domestic market, which has grown in recent years. “You have to understand that tourism is a priority to meet the needs of the population on all fronts,” he emphasized. Marrero expressed these considerations during a meeting held in the town of Varaderense, located in the western province of Matanzas, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman, the heads of Tourism (Mintur), Agriculture, Food, Industry, Health and Transportation and authorities of that territory. Ivis Fernández, Mintur delegate in Matanzas, presented the forecasts for the upcoming stage and pointed out Russia, Canada, Mexico and Germany as the main source markets for the pole at present. María del Pilar Macías, Mintur’s General Director of Operations and Quality, spoke about the hygienic-sanitary protocols that include a reinforcement in the training of employees in the sector. Varadero is located about 140 kilometers east of Havana (capital of Cuba) and has more than fifty hotel facilities, of which 15 are currently in operation for the international segment. npg / wap
