Ray tracing on the Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone thanks to the Exynos 2200 chip, made in cooperation with AMD

Ray tracing na smartfonie Samsung Galaxy S22 za sprawą układu Exynos 2200, wykonanego we współpracy z AMD We have known for several months that Samsung has been cooperating with AMD for some time. At the beginning of summer this year, AMD’s CEO, Lisa Su, confirmed that another Korean flagship smartphone will be distinguished by the use of AMD graphics (in the variant with Exynos). Today, Samsung itself also officially speaks about the use of the AMD RDNA 2 architecture in the upcoming smartphone. The manufacturer has just confirmed that the Exynos 2200 will have an integrated AMD graphics processor, codenamed Voyager, which will provide ray tracing technology and variable frequency shading. The new iGPU is to have six RDNA2 computing units (384 stream processors), and thus six ray accelerators.

Samsung confirms: the Exynos 2200 will integrate an AMD graphics processor, codenamed Voyager, which will provide ray tracing technology. The only question is … what games will use this feature?

Samsung Galaxy S22 – smartphones without major changes in design. Differences from predecessors are slight

Built in the 4nm EUV manufacturing process, the Exynos 2200 will feature not two, but three CPU cores – four light performance cores, three mid-range cores and one ultra-high performance core. Each of these three is designed to operate in unique performance bands, giving the software more precise control over hardware resources. Samsung is expected to debut with the Exynos 2200 along with the next generation of Galaxy S devices, and possibly also with the new Galaxy Note series.

At this point, it is worth recalling that there are many indications that Samsung will produce only 20 million smartphones from the Galaxy S22 series. The red lamp in the producer’s camp probably lit up after the August report, when it turned out that the S21 series found only 13.5 million buyers. Most interestingly, the manufacturer wants 50-60% of the produced smartphones from the new series to be the basic model, i.e. the 6.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S22. The remaining part is to be divided more or less equally into more expensive models, i.e. S22 + and S22 Ultra.
