Recommended Order to Watch Netflix’s Kaleidoscope

There’s plenty that should seem familiar about Netflix’s Kaleidoscope. It’s a heist story, so it has the usual elements – old rivalries, assembling the team, and smaller jobs that lead up to the big one.

But Kaleidoscope, has one key difference from similar shows – you can watch the episodes in any order you want.

This isn’t the first time Netflix has experimented with nonlinear storytelling. In 2018, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch offered a choose-your-own-adventure take on a film about a computer programmer.

What is the best order to watch “Kaleidoscope”?

The most recommended order is the chronological order.

In the interest of not ruining the viewing experience, I’ll keep the episode details to a minimum. If you plan to watch Kaleidoscope in chronological order, the episodes unfold as follows, beginning with a young Vernon 24 years before the heist:

  • Violet (24 years before the heist)
  • Green (7 years before)
  • Yellow (6 weeks before)
  • Orange (3 weeks before)
  • Blue (5 days before)
  • White (the heist)
  • Red (the morning after)
  • Pink (6 months after)

Are there alternative ways to watch?

If the math is correct, there are over 5,000 possible ways to watch the seven episodes of Kaleidoscope without any repeats, and you can watch them in any order (excluding the last episode, White). How many of those watch orders you attempt is up to you and your schedule.

I. Kaleidoscope episodes in order as a Quentin Tarantino film

Per Netflix, if you want to watch the episodes like the show is one long Quentin Tarantino film, you should watch as follows:

  • “Blue”: This episode occurs five days before the heist.
  • “Green”: This episode occurred seven years before the heist.
  • “Yellow”: This episode occurs six weeks before the heist.
  • “Orange”: This episode occurs three weeks before the heist.
  • “Violet”: This episode occurs 24 years before the heist.
  • “Pink”: This episode occurs six months after the heist.
  • “White”: This episode takes place during the heist.
  • “Red”: This episode occurs the morning after the heist.

II. Kaleidoscope episodes in order as a “classic detective story”

If you enjoy solving mysteries, Netflix suggests watching the episodes in the following order:

  • “Orange” takes place three weeks before the heist.
  • “Green” takes place seven years before the heist.
  • “Violet” takes place 24 years before the heist.
  • “Red” takes place the morning after the heist.
  • “Yellow” takes place six weeks before the heist.
  • “Blue” takes place five days before the heist.
  • “White” takes place during the heist.
  • “Pink” takes place six months after the heist.

III. Kaleidoscope episodes in rainbow order

Since the show creatively uses different colors to tell each episode, you might be inclined to watch each episode based on the colors of the rainbow.

  • “Red”: This episode occurs the morning after the heist.
  • “Orange”: This episode occurs three weeks before the heist.
  • “Yellow”: This episode occurs six weeks before the heist.
  • “Green”: This episode occurred seven years before the heist.
  • “Blue”: This episode occurs five days before the heist.
  • “Violet”: This episode occurs 24 years before the heist.
  • “Pink”: This episode occurs six months after the heist.
  • “White”: This episode takes place during the heist.
