There is a new record in both volume and value, the Norwegian Seafood Council states in a press release.
The total exports of 3.1 million tonnes of seafood corresponds to 42 million meals every single day – all year round.
– We are in the very favorable position that we have products like the whole world want – even in times of crisis. This has resulted in demand growth, record volumes and a total export value that Norway has never experienced before. It is impressive and shows that Norwegian seafood is one of our most important future industries, says CEO Renate Larsen of the Norwegian Seafood Council.
The increase in value is 13 percent more than the previous record from 2019, when Norway exported seafood for NOK 107 billion.
The salmon tops the list
Aquaculture accounted for 71 per cent of the export value, while the remaining 29 per cent comes from fisheries. In terms of the volume itself, aquaculture accounted for 44 per cent, while 56 per cent came from fishing.

– Despite the corona pandemic still making its mark on the markets, we got another record year for Norwegian salmon exports. A reopening of society, increased socialization and open restaurants raised demand in 2021, says sea analyst Paul T. Aandahl in the Norwegian Seafood Council.
– The salmon has obviously adapted to the new the ways to buy food, such as home delivery and takeaway, says Aandahl.
