Rennes ‘dream’ of signing out-of-contract Tottenham star

Reported Rennes target Hugo Lloris before Spurs' match against Burnley was postponed

According to reports, Stade Rennes are interested in signing Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Lloris joined Spurs in 2012 from Lyon and is captain of the north London club as well as the France national team.

Head coach Antonio Conte recently discussed the 35-year-old’s future, saying: “Hugo is a Tottenham player, he’s the captain. For sure he will talk with the club to try to find a solution.”

When asked if he thinks Lloris wants to stay at Spurs, Conte added: “I think so. I think Hugo wants to stay in his club, he loves the club, he stays well in Tottenham. This could be his opinion.”

The goalkeeper’s future remains uncertain, with no indication that he will renew his Spurs deal.

And according to France Bleu Armorique (via HITC), Rennes owner Francois Pinault is urging his side to sign Lloris.

The report claims that the veteran shot-stopper is Pinault’s ‘dream’ signing; however, his wage demands could exceed the Ligue 1 club’s structure.

Nice are also interested in Lloris. He spent four years at Les Aiglons before joining Lyon in 2008.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday evening, and Lloris has bemoaned his side’s ‘lack’ of aggressiveness.

“Again, the feeling after the first half was there was too much lack of aggressiveness,” the France international admitted.

“Of course, the credit belongs also to the opponent. They’re one of the best teams in Europe. They won the Champions League last season.

“If you compare both teams, they’re much in advance of us in terms of process.

“We’re still learning but I think there are a lot of things to learn from today, especially in the first half, if you want to grow as a team and become more competitive next season.”
