Report: Timothy Weah on the radar of Sevilla, Fulham, among others

Timothy Weah has played a substitute role in Lille’s dynamic attack since the resumption of the Ligue 1 season this winter, but the American winger could reportedly be on the move with several European clubs targeting him.

La Liga club Sevilla, as well as English Premier League sides Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Everton are all interested in acquiring Weah, French outlet L’Equipe reported Thursday. Weah’s current contract with Lille is set to run until June 2024 and the Ligue 1 side values him at €15 million, according to the report.

The 22-year-old impressed for the U.S. men’s national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, scoring once in four starts under manager Gregg Berhalter. Despite missing the first two months of the Ligue 1 season through a foot injury, Weah battled back to start three of his six Lille appearances prior to the World Cup.

Weah joined Lille in June 2019 on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain and is closing in on 100 appearances for the club. He has scored eight goals and registered eight assists in 85 appearances for Lille, featuring in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League for the club.

Weah also enjoyed a positive loan spell with Scottish Premiership club Celtic in 2019, scoring four goals in 17 appearances for the eventual league champions. He has earned 29 caps for the USMNT to date, winning the Concacaf Nations League in 2021.

Lille sits seventh in the Ligue 1 table, three points back of the top-four and 16 points back of league-leaders PSG.
