Tras la renuncia de Gerardo Octavio Solís Gómez a la Fiscalía de Jalisco, la tarde de este jueves rindió protesta como nuevo fiscal Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz después de ser ratificado por la mayoría de los diputados locales durante una sesión extraordinaria del Pleno en el Congreso de Jalisco.
Desde 2019 desempeñó al frente de la Fiscalía Ejecutiva en Investigación Criminal que se encarga de los delitos de alto impacto como secuestros, extorsiones, homicidios y robos en sus diversas modalidades.
Previamente, Méndez Ruiz trabajó como Director General de Investigación Especializada dentro de la misma Fiscalía, de diciembre de 2018 a abril de 2019, donde encabezó un reordenamiento en la recepción de denuncias y creación de áreas especializadas para la investigación de ciertos delitos.
El nuevo fiscal de Jalisco es egresado de la Licenciatura de Derecho por la Universidad Univer, de Guadalajara, con la Especialidad en Derecho penal; es maestro en Derecho Constitucional y Amparo por la Universidad América Latina de Guadalajara y tiene certificación de la Secretaría Técnica del Consejo de Coordinación para la implementación del Sistema de Justicia Penal.
