Saints Fantasy Outlook: Week 3 Must-Start or Sit?

The New Orleans Saints are riding high after a dominant 44-19 victory over one of their NFC rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. As we head into Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season, the Saints’ offense looks poised to explode, making them a must-consider option for fantasy football managers. Let’s dive into the key players to watch as the Saints take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Derek Carr-Start

Derek Carr was on fire as the New Orleans Saints absolutely dismantled the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Completing 11 of 16 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, Carr also added a rushing touchdown to cap off a stellar performance.

The Saints’ offense, led by new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, has been nothing short of explosive. They scored an impressive 35 points before halftime, with Carr accounting for all three of their touchdowns. His deep-ball accuracy was on full display, as he connected with Rashid Shaheed for a 70-yard touchdown and Alvin Kamara for a 57-yard score.

Carr’s performance has been a highlight of the Saints’ season, and he’ll look to keep the momentum going as they face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

Alvin Kamara-Start

Kamara was an absolute beast on Sunday, tearing through the Cowboys defense for 115 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries! He also showed off his receiving skills, hauling in two of three targets for 65 yards and another touchdown. His 57-yard touchdown reception was a thing of beauty, as he took a screen pass and turned on the jets, leaving defenders in his dust. Kamara has been a perfect fit for Kubiak’s offense, and he’s already racked up five total touchdowns in just two games. He’s looking to keep the touchdown train going and clip the Eagles’ wings in week 3.

Taysom Hill-Sit

Hill, one of the team’s captain, is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Eagles. Coach Allen’s announcement has cast somewhat of a dark shadow over the team. After a hospitalization due to a chest injury suffered last week, Hill’s status remains uncertain, and its lingering effects could severely hamper his ability to contribute. Even if he somehow manages to suit up, Hill’s effectiveness is likely to be compromised, making him a risky gamble for fantasy football owners.

Chris Olave-Start

Olave had a solid performance in the Saints’ victory over the Cowboys. He caught four of six targets for 81 yards and also added seven yards on the ground. Olave was more involved in the passing game than he was in the season opener, leading the team in targets. However, his involvement decreased in the second half as the Saints built a comfortable lead.

While Shaheed has been the primary target in the Saints’ offense so far this season, Olave has the potential to break out against the Eagles’ inexperienced secondary in Week 3.

Foster Moreau-Sit

Moreau was unable to find the end zone during the Saints’ dominant 44-19 win over the Cowboys. Despite starting the game after recovering from a concussion, the 27-year-old did not receive any targets from Derek Carr, who had an efficient day. Moreau was unfortunate to have a potential 26-yard touchdown catch negated by a penalty, but he still saw significant playing time on the field. It remains to be seen if either Moreau or Juwan Johnson will receive more opportunities in the Saints’ upcoming game against the Eagles. I would suggest going with another TE option this week.

Rashid Shaheed-Start

Shaheed absolutely DOMINATED the Cowboys, hauling in 4 catches for 96 yards and a TD! He also rushed for 13 yards on 3 carries. This young wideout is quickly becoming Derek Carr’s go-to deep threat, and his 70-yard TD bomb in the first quarter against Dallas set the tone for another explosive Saints’ offensive performance. Shaheed already has two 50+ yard touchdowns this season, and he’s looking to torch the Eagles secondary next week. Watch out, Philly! Shaheed is looking to add more to his stat box.
