Chelsea target interested in Premier League move following Champions League heroics

Manchester City secured their place in the Champions League final courtesy of a remarkable 4-0 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.

The two sides had drawn the first leg of their semi-final 1-1 in the Spanish capital last week, but Pep Guardiola’s side produced a scintillating display on Wednesday to set up a final against Italian side Inter Milan.

The Serie A giants had booked their place in the Istanbul showdown by beating fierce rivals AC Milan 3-0 on aggregate.

Inter cruised to a 2-0 victory in the first leg, before Lautaro Martinez grabbed the only goal of the second leg on Tuesday.

Now, though, it appears that the striker could soon be on his way out of his current club amid interest from a Premier League side.

According to Football InsiderMartinez would consider a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea said to be interested in signing the player.

The 25-year-old is reportedly a target for the Blues this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options following what has already been a dismal campaign.

Only three teams – including already relegated Southampton – have scored fewer Premier League goals than Chelsea so far this term, and incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to solve their goal scoring issues.

Martinez scored to help Inter progress to the Champions League final on Tuesday

Martinez joined Inter from Argentinian side Racing Club back in 2018 and has since scored 99 goals in 233 appearances for the club.

This season, the forward has netted 25 times in 52 matches across all competitions, as well as providing ten assists.

Despite his superb campaign and the possibility of winning the Champions League next month, it appears that Martinez would consider leaving Inter this summer.

The report suggests that Martinez would consider a move to England ‘if the right opportunity presents itself’, although it is also claimed that the striker would cost in the region of £70 million.

Chelsea won’t, though, be able to offer potential signings the opportunity to play in Europe next term as they have failed to qualify for any continental competition after their dismal campaign.

Despite that, the Blues reportedly perceive Martinez as a more affordable option than the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen as they look to solve their attacking problems.
