Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell is on hiatus due to heart issues

Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell is taking a break from performing due to ongoing health issues.

Harwell’s rep confirmed to TMZ Tuesday that the “All Star” crooner, 54, is on hiatus to deal with cardiomyopathy and heart failure, which forced him to miss a few performances.

Harwell was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy — a disease in which the heart muscle becomes enlarged, making it difficult to pump blood — in 2015.

He manages his condition with medication, but after issues began to arise, he realized he needed to make changes, his rep shared.

Fans began to speculate that Harwell had been fired from the band after a substitute singer appeared in his place, but the stand-in is just a temporary replacement while Harwell recovers.

“ok a couple things 1) @smashmouth did you really fire your singer and B) can i be your new singer,” rock band Eve 6 tweeted at the band Monday.

“nobody got fired but anytime you wanna come sing All Star with us we’re down,” Smash Mouth responded, without indicating what happened to Harwell.

“I wonder if @smashmouth is going to tell us who the imposter at the show was last night,” tweeted another fan. “It wasn’t Steve Harwell.”

He’s expected to return to performing Thursday at the Mississippi State Fair.

Harwell’s rep didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

Harwell has experienced multiple health mishaps over the past several years. In 2016, the singer collapsed onstage mid-performance and was taken away via ambulance, but the “I’m a Believer” band confirmed he was OK shortly thereafter. A year later, Harwell was hospitalized after experiencing difficulty breathing at a sound check ahead of one of the band’s concerts.
