Snl24 | Cops crack down on ATM bombers!

Suspects, believed to be specialising in bombing ATMs, were arrested in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni.

THREE suspects, believed to be ATM bombings experts, were arrested in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni, on Wednesday, 3 July.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police acted on a tip-off and raided two houses where they found explosives, stained money, and a suspected stolen car.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Kelebogile Thepa stated that officers carried out a crime intelligence-driven operation, leading to the arrest of three male suspects aged between 27 and 43.

She explained that officers received information from a reliable source about two suspicious houses used for harbouring criminals specialising in ATM blasts.

“Officers raided the first house where two suspects involved in a recent ATM bombing at the corners of Eritrea and Uganda streets in Palm Ridge were found.

“Officers uncovered detonator explosives and a stolen white Chevrolet light delivery vehicle,” Thepa reported.

Upon interrogation, the suspects, South African and Mozambican nationals, gave officers a second address on Uganda Street where a third suspect, also from Mozambique, was arrested.

During the arrest, officers recovered R1 000 in stained notes, stained jackets, two stained cellphones, a pair of sneakers, wire cables, and a stained 12-volt car battery.

“The three suspects are facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of explosives, and possession of stained money,” Thepa concluded.
