Enfield Council in North London has approved a 351-house development by Connected Living London (CLL), which is a development partnership between Transport for London and the private landlord Grainger.
The development across 1.36 hectares will be located by the Grade II-listed Cockfosters station. Around 40 per cent of the houses will be classified as affordable housing. The scheme will also include public realm improvements and commercial space. The four buildings will have one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
CLL is a build-to-rent specialist focused on projects in London situated by transport links. The joint venture had two other projects in Lambeth and one in Ealing. CLL’s proposal to build 162 homes by Arnos Grove station was rejected by Enfield council and the builder has since filed an appeal.
According to local reports, the Cockfosters project also faced objections for its impact on heritage and local infrastructure.
Adrian Day, a spokesperson for campaign group Better Streets for Enfield, said: “We are pleased that the development by Cockfosters Tube station has been approved. Reducing the amount of space devoted to car parking encourages active travel and use of public transport, which is vital for climate-change goals, and building here means less green-belt land is needed for housing.”
