The Android 15 QPR2 Beta for Pixel is starting soon

Besides the general Android 16 timeline provided today, Google is also sharing that the Android 15 QPR2 Beta gets underway soon.

The Android 15 QPR1 preview cycle is over following the release of Beta 3 last week. There are a number of user-facing changes like the redesigned Settings app and the “Limit to 80%” charging optimization. The “final public stable release of Android 15 QPR1 (AP4A)” is coming in December.

To receive the final stable public Android 15 QPR1 release, devices currently enrolled in Beta will need to first opt out of the program.

The Google-provided instructions are as follows:

  • Opt out of the program.
  • Ignore/don’t apply the downgrade OTA update. The OTA message will have ‘Downgrade’ in the description. Opting out will not cause a data wipe as long as you don’t apply the downgrade OTA update.
  • If your device is offered the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1 update, don’t install the update. Instead, first opt out of the program, ignore/don’t apply the downgrade OTA update.

Meanwhile, the Android 15 March Quarterly Platform Release (QPR2) is “around the corner.”

It builds on top of the Android 15 QPR1 platform release and includes the latest bug fixes and improvements to stability and performance.

If you remain in the Android Beta Program, your device will be updated to QPR2 Beta 1. The next opportunity to leave will be “towards the end of the Android 15 QPR2 Beta cycle in Q1 2025.”

From what Google shared earlier today, QPR2 will most likely be the last Android 15 release. Android 16 should be launching in the second quarter of 2025 period normally taken by a QPR3. Meanwhile, we’re on track for side-by-side Android 15 QPR2 Betas and Android 16 Developer Previews.
