The Finnish Coast Guard has launched a criminal investigation following the illegal arrival of migrants leaving Belarus. Some have arrived in Finland by ferry from Estonia.
One of Finland’s largest newspapers reports that the investigation was launched in September but is still in its infancy. According to the border guards, cases have been initiated about the illegal entry of about ten people into the country.
Most likely, people are hiding in in the luggage compartments of the ferry car. It is known that several asylum applications have also been submitted. The Finnish authorities are cooperating with the Baltic States in the investigation.
CONTEXT :
2021. In the summer of 2006 , the number of migrants trying to enter the territory of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland from Belarus increased significantly. Most migrants have come from Iraq.
Lithuanian officials have indicated that the Belarusian authorities deliberately does not obstruct the crossing of the border in order to punish Lithuania for supporting the Belarusian opposition and sanctions against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko. The Baltic states describe such actions as the spread of a hybrid war against the European Union.
