The Commander of the British Armed Forces, Tony Radakin, has warned that Russian submarine activity threatens underwater cables that are critical to communications systems around the world.
Admiral Radakin said in his speech To the British newspaper (The Times) that the submarine cables that transmit Internet data are “the real information system in the world and any attempt to damage it can be considered an act of war”. Radakin added that there has been a huge increase in Russian submarine activity and underwater activity over the past twenty years, And that this means that Moscow can “offer The world’s real information system may be compromised and exploited, the submarine cables that stretch all over the world.”

He continued, “This is where mostly all the information and traffic in the world goes. Russia has developed its ability to jeopardize those undersea cables and possibly exploit those undersea cables. (In December 2020, while the British Navy was tracking Russian submarine activity, a collision between the British ship HMS Northumberland and a Russian submarine sparked speculation about cable mapping activity.) Radakin pointed out that The UK needs to develop hypersonic missiles to keep up with military competition.

He highlighted Russia’s hypersonic and long-range missile capability as a threat and Britain’s comparative capabilities as a weakness, saying: “We don’t have them and we should have.” Radakin added that he briefed the ministers on the “options.” British military” if Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine, but he did not disclose any other information. The British Defense Minister, Ben Wallace, said earlier It would be “highly unlikely” the UK would send in troops in the event of an invasion, while The Times reported that cyber attacks “could be an option”.
