Thomas Frank laments conceding of ‘s*** goal’ but hails ‘one of the better Premier League goalkeepers’ David Raya after Brentford beat West Ham

Thomas Frank has claimed his newly-promoted Brentford side will always ‘go for the win’ and praised David Raya as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers following a 2-1 victory over West Ham.

Brentford continue to entertain in their debut Premier League campaign, already beating the likes of Arsenal and Wolves, whilst claiming a famous 3-3 home draw against Liverpool.

The scorer of the Bees late equaliser against Liverpool, Yoane Wissa, was the hero against West Ham, smashing in a stoppage-time winner away at the London Stadium.

Frank admitted his side were lucky to take the result, but made his club’s intentions clear, saying they will always go for the win despite only just returning to the top flight for the first time in 74 years.

“We struggled massively, I thought we worked hard, top attitude, put on the line,” Frank said.

“Sometimes you need that when it’s a scrappy game so well done to the boys there but I want us to be better on the ball.

“We actually got through the storm and you thought OK now it’s settled, then we conceded a pretty sgoal on set piece and after that you said OK [the game’s over], but we always try to go for the win.”

Frank also seeked to praise his goalkeeper David Raya who made four saves during the match. The Spaniard joined from Blackburn in 2019 and instantly impressed, earning interest from Arsenal.

But Frank is delighted to have held onto his No.1, and expects he will soon be considered one of the league’s best shot stoppers after an excellent start.

“David Raya, I think it can’t be that long before he will be acknowledged for his performance so far in the Premier League,” Frank said.

“I think he’s definitely one of the better goalkeepers in the Premier League.”

The Dane was also happy for the travelling support, who he believes will appreciate the late winner more than anyone after their gigantic 74-year wait to rejoin the top flight.

“It’s fantastic for them, I’m so pleased, every fan will love that late winner, but I think our fans just appreciate it a tiny bit more because of all the struggles the club has been through,” he said.

“It’s been a long, long journey to come into the Premier League and now they’ve just experienced rock and roll.”
