International Day for Older Persons i.e. International Day of Older Persons or International Senior Citizens Day is celebrated on 1 October every year since 1991 all over the world under the leadership of United Nations. Its purpose is to get the elderly their rights.

14 In December 1990, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided that October 1 be celebrated as the International Day of Older Persons. Earlier in 1982, the World Assembly on Aging passed the Vienna International Plan of Action on Aging. A year later, the General Assembly of the UN also ratified it. Every year this day is celebrated with different themes. This year’s theme is – Digital Equity for All Ages i.e. stake in the digital world for people of all ages.

The Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Bill was passed in India in 2007. In this, provision has been made for the maintenance of parents, establishment of old age homes, provision of medical facilities and protection of life and property of senior citizens.

In 1912, the Qing monarchy came to an end and the Republic of China was formed. This is where the modern history of China began. At that time there were nationalist leaders who declared China a republic. During this time communist forces also emerged there rapidly. In 1936, both fought vigorously against the Japanese invasion.
