In episode 1, titled “RGB,” how the Tokyo 24th Ward came to be was explained. Things were going well but changed until an incident happened among four friends.
On the anniversary of the incident, Shuuta, Ran, and Kouki got a call from their dead friend Asumi. The three mysteriously attained powers upon answering the call and were given a situation to save people.
Shuuta, Ran, and Kouki realized the situation wasn’t fake and took action to prevent it. Combining their efforts, they managed to save people from a major accident. In the end, the trio had an argument on Asumi being alive.

Tokyo 24th Ward brings a mysterious modern twist to its viewers, and everyone is on board to see what lies for the protagonists. The one-hour special episode gave us an insight into what might come, and I’m excited to see the story unfold.
Shuuta, Ran, and Kouki somehow gained powers through a sudden jolt. Who do you think is behind this unexpected turn of events? Is the AI connected to Asumi to help save the future of the 24th Ward?
Viewers have grasped the story and hope to see where this series will take them. Even so, most of the fans are concerned if the studio, CloverWorks, will rush the quality of the story as they have a tight deadline.
My fingers are crossed, and I hope this show will get interesting as it progresses. With the story set, let’s wait for what this modern sci-fi and mystery anime brings us in the next episodes.

Episode 1 Recap
This episode starts with an AI explaining the modern world is integrated based on the data it gets fed with. It all changed after a certain incident that took place between three friends.
Shuuta, Ran, and Kouki tried to save their friend, Asumi, from a fire outbreak at a school.
Asumi lost her life in the incident and caused a turn of events. A year has passed since then, and the trio meets up at the one-year anniversary ceremony of the incident. They get dinner with Maririn after the ceremony.
As they enjoy a meal together, the trio talk about their life situations. When they try to dig in the meal, the three of them simultaneously get a call from Asumi. When the trio picks the call up, they get jolted with a special power.
Asumi gives them a vision that a runaway train will hit someone stuck in the tracks. She asks them what choice will they make in the situation. Will they save the passengers or save the one person stuck and states to choose the future?
Shuuta, Ran, and Kouki find the call odd, but they go to pay their respects at Asumi’s memorial. On their way, they realize there’s an opening ceremony for the Kizuna Train, and the vision specifically showed Maririn stuck on the tracks. Kouki tells Ran to find Maririn’s location.
Ran reveals that Maririn is at Nijimi Station. Maririn loses her dog in the station and goes after it to the tracks, and gets stuck with the dog. Shuuta goes ahead and makes a run towards the track and stays connected with Ran and Kouki.
As the trio makes their way to save Maririn, they notice an increase in their abilities and lighter physique. The three accordingly play their part to set the scenario right to save both the passengers and Maririn.
Ran uses his hacking skills to activate the train’s brake system, and Kouki chooses to let the mayor, his father, know what needs to be done. After they both do their part, they tell Shuuta to handle the rest. With the new power, Shuuta catches up with the train.
Even after a moment of doubt from the incident a year ago, Shuuta pushes through and saves Maririn. With the situation handled, Shuuta, Ran, and Kouki pay their respects to Asumi. Shuuta thinks Asumi is alive but Ran and Kouki think otherwise.

About Tokyo 24-ku
Tokyo 24-ku is an upcoming original anime by CloverWorks which is scheduled to air in January 2022.
The anime takes place on an artificial island floating in Tokyo Bay, named “Kyokutō Hōreigai Tokubetsu Chiku” (Far East Special District Outside of the Law), nicknamed “24th Ward.” The manga centers on three childhood friends born and raised on the island: Ran, Koki, and Shuta.. But their relationships will change dramatically after a certain incident.
At a memorial ceremony one year after the incident, the three happen to meet again. They receive a phone call from a dead friend urging them to choose their futures.
