As the Magpies faithful cleared out the cobwebs from a big night of celebrations, former Collingwood favourite Jason Cloke was going to work on the Sunshine Coast.
The AFL veteran booted home five majors as Queensland’s Over-40s A side dominated Western Australia on the opening day of the AFL Masters National Carnival.
Sunshine Coast local Matt Johnstone was one of three of Cloke’s teammates to finish with multiple goals as they plundered a 13.6 (84) to 1.5 (11) win.

The big win highlighted a huge start to the national tournament on home soil for the Queensland brigade.
The Sunshine State sits equal first on the ladder in the Men’s Over 35s, Men’s Over-40s, Mens Over-45s Div 1, Mens Over-55s Div 1 and Men’s Over-60s Div 1.
But perhaps their biggest result on the opening day came in the Women’s Over-35s.
Queensland lead the division after the opening day of the tournament after a 69-point demolition of Victoria Metro.

Queensland kicked six second-half goals, and had 18 scoring shots, as they kept Victoria scoreless at the other end of the field in a 8.21 (69) to 0 victory.
While Cloke’s efforts were impressive, the best individual effort on the opening day of the tournament came from Tasmania’s Over-40s’ forward Lee Nichols.
The Scottsdale Football Club legend, who has racked up more than 300 games in a long career in Tasmania’s north east corner, booted home six majors as Tasmania put South Australia Metro to the sword.
Tasmania sit level with Queensland at the top of the Over-40s ladder after rollicking home to a 13.12 (89) to 0.2 (2) win.

PREVIEW
The home state will open the action on day one in a big way, with Queensland featuring in the first six games on Upton Oval on Sunday.
The men and women in maroon will have a major advantage on the opening day as visiting teams battle with a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius and expected humidity around the 60 per cent mark.
AFL Masters Queensland president Sam French said the home state would be ready to use its advantage on the field.
”With a home Carnival, we expect that Queensland will have one of its strongest Carnivals ever,” French said.
“We are excited to welcome all the States and Territories to the Sunshine Coast, but all bets will be off once the siren sounds to start each match. Expect the typical Queenslander spirit to shine through this week.”
Sunshine Coast councillor Jason O’Pray said that the carnival, which is the biggest on record with over 1500 athletes competing, would provide an economic boost to the region.
“Our region has been recognised as a real hub for training, events and competitions across many sports, including AFL and we are excited to host a masters’ carnival of this calibre at our Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex”, O’Pray said.
“The climate and natural landscape we are fortunate to have here on the Sunshine Coast is the perfect recipe for living an active and outdoor lifestyle and playing the sports we love.
“Best of luck to all the Masters competing here on the Sunshine Coast.”
