All the beds in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Giurgiu County Emergency Hospital (SJU) are occupied by patients with COVID-19, and at UPU finds another 50 people, which is why the hospital management decided to transform the Neurology department into a COVID-19 department and to supplement it with 30 beds.
All patients admitted to this ward, who require treatment and medical supervision, will be transferred to the Cardiology and Internal Medicine Departments of the same hospital, the others will be treated at home.
“We are facing with very serious cases of COVID, so we decided to supplement with 30 beds for patients who go to our hospital. We have taken steps to rehabilitate certain sections, because we want to obtain the ISU authorization, changing electrical and oxygen installations in the ATI and Infectious sections, in order to operate at maximum capacity. We are in the phase of acquisition and rehabilitation of the new hospital, so we will meet the necessary. The current problem is, in fact, related to human resources, which is why we decided on these changes “, says the manager of SJU Giurgiu, Dragoș Chivu, for Gândul.
95% of patients, not vaccinated
Dragoș Chivu added that wave 4 of the COVID-19 pandemic is very aggressive, and the frequency with which ambulances come to the hospital has increased.
The situation became so serious that on Tuesday the hospital had 30 beds for COVID 19 patients, but 50 infected patients who needed oxygen. Of those hospitalized, over 95% are unvaccinated, the manager Dragoș Chivu pointed out.
About the mobile unit promised by the state secretary Raed Arafat for Giurgiu, the manager says that will be transferred to the County Emergency Hospital when there will be doctors and medical staff serving this unit.
