The most well-known O2 TV dominates in the segment of television applications for smartphones and tablets in the Czech Republic, but due to the recent termination of cooperation with the AMC channel group, several children’s and sports channels have disappeared from the service. This is where the Kuki.tv service comes into play, which is available for phones, tablets and smart TVs. You don’t have to search for missing JimJam or Sport 1 channels (from AMD) on the satellite, but you can play them directly on your mobile phone. But what will happen to Kuki.tv if we evaluate the application and functionality as such during testing?
Introduction of Kuki.tv
Kuki.tv is an IPTV that you run on your TV, tablet, smartphone or web browser. The service offers more than 140 HD channels, for which it supports up to seven days of playback (for the start service only 24 hours), the channels themselves are included in four program menus. With the basic Kuki start, both the number of channels and the number of devices are limited. With the Kuki extra, you have 146 channels available, which you can run simultaneously on three fixed and up to five other mobile devices. Of course, the price of the tariff also depends on this. As part of testing, we tested the highest-ranked variant of Kuki extra.

Kuki.tv will start on the Arris 4302 Set top box, for smart TVs from Samsung (2015 and newer), on Android TV, for TVs from LG (4K models with webOS 3.0 and later), on Nvidia Shield TV, Chromecast or in a web browser (Chrome and Firefox). Smartphones and tablets with iOS and Android are supported from mobile devices.
The mobile application looked up in purple
You can download the Kuki.tv application for smartphones and tablets on Google Play and App Store . After logging in with your access data, you will immediately be able to watch TV. On the basic screen, the first line shows you the “blockbusters” from the last week, the next line shows the peer-reviewed meetings, which are followed by your recordings (up to 10 hours stored for 14 days) and well-known series or movies that you can the price of “lend”. Only then follows the classic EPG, in which you can choose what you will currently watch. And this view can be quite confusing at first.

This is a list of windows that correspond to past, current or future programs. At first, these windows are empty and are constantly filled with preview images, so the application tends to be slower when loading image data. You can play the selected program from the beginning, or enter it “live” if it is currently running on TV, or you can have it uploaded (full storage shows percentages in the upper right corner)
Introduction of the Kuki.tv mobile application:
However, it is a pity that the stations at the beginning of the “infinite” line do not have their own logo, so you only have to search manually by text, which is not twice as convenient. Yes, the described classic look also exists in the settings, but nothing changes after switching. And unfortunately, we were not convinced by the integrated search, which often shows completely irrelevant films and shows in the first places, and the exact search phrase appears only in the tenth position. Also, searching for a specific station (Sport 1) can be a bit of a problem, because if you enter “Sport1” into the search engine, Nova Sport 1 HD will pop up first and Sport 1 will not be in the entire list even once. And this despite the fact that both stations have a gap in front of number one …
Search for shows, series and movies. The program content is from football to cooking …
Fortunately, you can rearrange the channels as desired in the Settings (it’s a pity that quick adjustments do not work according to the focus of the channels), and thus place the preferred ones in the leading positions. If you have active background playback, you will be notified in the notification bar on Android that Kuki is playing. However, the application thus seems to “hang” in the background, even when it is turned off. The design of the application is modern, but the practicality got a bit of an impact. It will definitely want, at least on Android, a more significant software update.
With regard to the stability of the streams, we have rather positive news, the mobile application sometimes chose a weaker moment, but the stream came back very soon. However, we did not come across any jams or freezing of the stream, which is unfortunately a common issue when watching football matches of Czech teams on O2 TV Sport. While watching, you can pop up a menu from the top bar where you can edit the audio track and subtitles, then click on the image to move to the timeline. However, the jumps are rather larger, it will probably take you a while to trace back the goal situation.
The TV application will display the QR code
A newer version of the Kuki 2.0 application is available on Android TV, but we used an older version of the Kuki 1.0 app available on Samsung’s Smart TV during testing. Pairing takes place unconventionally via the QR code you have displayed on the TV. You download it by phone, and you’re done. This way, you will avoid the annoying entry of a username and password, which I have probably never succeeded in with TV applications for the first time without errors. Alternatively, you can use the web Kuki Account to pair. The application notifies you as soon as it starts up that the Kuki is connected wirelessly and that a wired connection is better for playback stability.
Kuki 1.0 application on Smart TV
The main menu of the older version of the TV application tries to look “smart” like on a mobile phone, but to watch TV you must first go to the right button and then confirm watching tv. Probably the most pressing shortcoming is that the television does not remember the last channel watched. Things would be much easier than if you didn’t have to start with CT1 every time you start. The stability of the TV application was a bit worse on a wireless connection than on a mobile phone. About three times a week, the television broadcast stopped for a few seconds, then resumed. So it wasn’t a big deal, and the Wi-Fi network itself could sign it.
Computer monitoring and program composition
Another way to watch Kuki.tv is the play.kuki.cz website. After logging in to your account, you have the same layout as on your phone or tablet. In settings, you can edit the program track, PIN for access to limited content, create new profiles, manage devices and more. It is not possible to enter only the store, which is still limited to the site Kuki account , where you download invoices, add or edit services, or remove devices added to the service.
You can also run Kuki.tv on your computer in a web browser
Minor visual deficiencies and the worse control logic, however, is balanced by the program composition. With regard to his interest in football broadcasts and the interest of his descendants in children’s channels, Kuki.tv receives great praise here. The sports channels Sport 1, Sport 2 (where broadcasts of Czech teams from the European League and the European Conference League) and children’s Jim Jam (with catchy fairy tales for children in Czech) disappear from the O2 TV offer at the beginning of the holidays, but remain with Kuki.tv. However, you have to pay extra for a higher rate, as these channels are not available in the two below.
Web settings browsers, purchases can only be made through the Kuki account page
However, we dare to say that the program composition will suit everyone, we also like the possibility of buying individual channels for CZK 35 / month (or 5 channels for CZK 150), which is not possible with the lowest package. You have to take into account that you have to buy some channels with others from one program group, but it is still an interesting bonus. For “smaller” and “larger” services, optional channels can be changed every 30 days. However, there are various other packages in the price list of the service, eg for entry to the Cinema for 50 films for a monthly fee, for longer recording periods, an HBO package or packages for recording series.
Minor shortcomings remain to be fine-tuned
The Kuki.tv application provides stable IPTV with minimal downtime, which you get to the TV, laptop, computer and tablet. The program composition is one of the better things you can get in the Czech Republic, but the software part will want to fine-tune, especially on Android. The application does not switch to a clearer classic mode in the background hang notifications about playback in the background, even if you have it deactivated. However, this is not something that would not be done by an adequate software update. We also like the price-graded tariffs, which you can adjust according to your preferences.
Supported Kuki.tv devices
Download the Kuki.tv app for free on Google Play a App Store . You can purchase the selected tariff on this site , the first 14 days of watching TV is for newcomers free.
