Which films and documentaries have particularly impressed start-up heads like Finn Hänsel, Gitti boss Jennifer Baum-Minkus or Julian Leitloff? We asked once. Here they share their streaming recommendations.
“The Big Short” (Amazon Prime)
Recommended by:
Tobias Weiper (Vatian), Enno Einfeld (Finiata)
Einfeld: “I recommend “The Big Short” to fintech founders in particular, for two reasons: Firstly, the film is a great example of how complex financial products can be explained very simply. Something we should all learn a slice of. And secondly, I think that Michael Burry (played by Christian Bale) saw a very big thing coming very early on and rightly asserted himself against great resistance – including from his investors. Impressively brave.”
“Last Dance” (Netflix)
Recommended by: Tao Tao (Getyourguide), Ina Remmers (Nebenan.de)
Tao: “I love all the sports documentaries on Netflix like Michael Jordan, Formula 1 or Sunderland football club. Good for switching off and cheering.”
Remmers: “My secret passion since I was a teenager? Basketball. This documentary is not only fantastic from a game perspective, but in many ways: it shows the new era of marketing and what playing to win really means. It also becomes clear that as a manager you are not always the most popular person in the team.”

“Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates “ (Netflix)Recommended by: Sina Jurina (Maison Hēroïne), Anne and Stefan Lemcke (Ankerkraut)
Pausder: “Great chess and the greatest leading actress in the world.”
“The Calling” (Netflix)
Recommended by: Verena Hubertz (Kitchen Stories)
Hubertz: “The autobiographically based film about Ruth Bader Ginsburg is running on Netflix. It’s really impressive how she made her way to the Supreme Court and made so much difference for women’s rights in the US and globally.”

„Gladiator“ (Netflix, Amazon Prime)
Recommended by: Andy Bruckschloegl (Ryte)
Bruckschloegl: “I think “Gladiator” and “Hunt for Red October” are very strong on the topic of leadership. And no, this isn’t about the fights, it’s about how different protagonists behave.”
“Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool“ (Netflix)Recommended by: Jennifer Baum-Minkus (Gitti)
Baum-Minkus: “Director Stanley Nelson deals with the life of Miles Davis, who is one of the most influential and innovative jazz musicians of the 20th century. I think it’s important to get inspiration from other areas, such as art, culture and music.”
“American Factory” (Netflix)
Recommended by: Ina Remmers (Nebenan.de)
Remmers: “In my opinion, this is the best documentary I’ve seen this year. It is observational, nonjudgmental and therefore very impressive. If you are interested in culture in an economic context, you should take a look.”
