This period has now been shortened to four months.

In the canton of Zurich, a booster vaccination is possible after four months. All people who received their basic immunization four months ago can have a boost since January 1st.

The admitted persons will be sent by SMS or letter contacted as soon as they can book an appointment. According to the health department, there should be enough appointments so that everyone who wants to be boosted can do so by February 1st.

It was announced that the dates for the child vaccination at 8 a.m. on zh.vacme.ch would be activated. However, the appointment bookings didn’t actually work until around 8:30 a.m., as the health department announced on their Twitter account. The reason for the delay was a technical error. The health department apologizes for the resulting waiting time via Twitter. The dates are continuously activated.

According to the health department, the children have various options for vaccination: The Children’s Hospital Zurich, the vaccination center at Hirschengraben, the Vaccination Center Winterthur and the Uster Vaccination Center will offer vaccinations for children from 5 to 11 years of age. Which vaccine is used for the booster?

Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are approved, Pfizer from 16 years of age, Moderna from 18 years of age. However, the FOPH recommends that people under the age of 30 receive a booster vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine, regardless of which vaccine the person was vaccinated with first. The reason is a very rare side effect – inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) – which can occur mainly in people between the ages of 12 and 29, mostly in men. According to the Directorate of Health, the risk of myocarditis is very low overall, but with the Pfizer vaccine the risk is half as high as with a Moderna vaccination.

According to the BAG, all other people should, if possible, receive a vaccination with the vaccine that has already been administered to them. In off-label use, cross-vaccinations are sometimes also administered – for example by the family doctor.
