1. The Holiday (2006)

This holiday classic is arguably one of the best romantic movies on Hulu. Two women decide to escape their work stress and relationship issues by swapping homes for two weeks around the holidays, and the change of scenery leads to more than just a new perspective. L.A.-based Amanda (Cameron Diaz) is fresh off a breakup when she swaps homes with Iris (Kate Winslet), who’s dealing with her own love issues in Surrey, England. But while they’re both seeking a quiet Christmas alone, they soon get swept up with local men (hello, Jude Law and Jack Black). Available now.

2. Ghosting: The Spirit of Christmas (2019) 

This is definitely not your typical Christmas movie, but somehow it works. Jess (Aisha Dee) and Ben (Kendrick Sampson) share a practically perfect first date around the holidays…and then she dies in a car accident on the way home. Ben thinks she’s ghosting him, which isn’t exactly wrong. In fact, Jess is stuck in some sort of limbo, and only Ben and her best friend can see her. Available now. 

3. A Christmas Movie Christmas (2019)

A Christmas Movie Christmas is for anyone who loves the fact that holiday movies are a little corny. Two sisters, Eve (Lana McKissack) and Lacy (Kimberly Daugherty), are fed up with spending the holidays alone, and they wish for the kind of Christmas that exists only in holiday movies. The result? They wake up in Holiday Falls, a town where life is as cheesy as a Christmas rom-com. Available now.

4. No Sleep ’Til Christmas (2018) 

All Lizzie (Odette Annable) and Billy (Dave Annable, her real-life spouse!) want for Christmas is a good night’s sleep. After they got into an accident years ago, these two insomniacs realized that they’re able to get a restful night’s sleep only when they sleep next to each other. The problem is Lizzie is about to get married (to someone else) and needs some real rest to focus, which means sleeping with—or at least next to—another man. Available now. 

5. Christmas Crush (2019)

In Christmas Crush, a woman (Cindy Sampson) uses “Christmas magic” to will her neighbor into falling in love with her. It works—on the wrong neighbor. (This seems like another Christmas movie that knows how weird holiday movie premises can get.) As you can imagine, high jinks ensue. Available now.

6. Happiest Season (2020)

Happiest Season is the holiday movie that spawned an endless stream of tweets. Abby (Kristen Stewart) plans to propose to her girlfriend, Harper (Mackenzie Davis), at Harper’s family holiday party. This sounds like the heartwarming holiday movie we deserve until Abby discovers that her girlfriend hasn’t actually come out to her family. There have been mixed reviews, especially from folks in the queer community who felt the film lacks diversity and that the happy couple might actually be pretty toxic. Still, especially since holiday rom-coms don’t always model healthy relationships, Happiest Season might be worth the ride for you. Available now.

7. The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017)

Okay, time for a holiday movie that doesn’t imply that if you aren’t falling in love on Christmas, you’re doing it wrong. Check out this entertaining and enchanting story of how Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) came up with The Christmas Carol back in 1843. Available now. 

8. The Jinkx and DeLa Holiday Special (2020)

This holiday drag show is a great pick if you’d prefer your Christmas carols with a side of shady jokes and sexual innuendo. Featuring two RuPaul’s Drag Race legends, this Christmas special reminds us that our holiday traditions can be whatever we want them to be. Available now. 

9. Every Other Holiday (2018)

Recently separated parents Tracie (Schuyler Fisk) and Rick (David Clayton Rogers) typically switch off each Christmas with their daughters, but this year the kids plead for a joint holiday at their grandparents’ farmhouse. The parents oblige, and soon Tracie is torn between reconnecting with Rick and listening to the very strong opinions of her mother, who’s not thrilled about that happening under her roof. 10. Christmas Perfection (2018)

Darcy (Caitlin Thompson) is a bit of a control freak around the holidays, preferring it all to be as perfect as the Christmas village she sets up each year. So when she wakes up one day to find herself living in her Irish Christmas village come to life, she’s not immediately mad at it. (Yes, this is another holiday-fever-dream movie.) Of course, Darcy starts to figure out that maybe this idyllic version of life isn’t really what she wants after all. Available now. 

11. The Mistle-Tones (2012)

If you need more Christmas music in your life, this musical will definitely scratch that itch. When Holly (Tia Mowry) doesn’t get a spot in the singing group The Snow Belles, she puts together her own group to challenge her rivals, led by Scrooge-level bully Marci (Tori Spelling). Expect fun rehearsal montages, intergroup drama, and sing-offs that will probably make you sing along. Available now. 

12. Same Time, Next Christmas (2019) 

Olivia (Lea Michele) and Jeff (Charles Michael Davis) have spent Christmas in Hawaii with their respective families since they were kids. Now they’re all grown up, Olivia is dating Gregg (Bryan Greenberg), and she hasn’t seen or talked to Jeff in years. But in true Christmas-movie fashion, Olivia unexpectedly runs into Jeff while back in Hawaii for Christmas and realizes there’s still something between them. Oh, and then Gregg shows up. Drama! 13. The Truth About Christmas (2018)

Jillian (Kali Hawk) would do almost anything to help her boyfriend, George (Damon Dayoub). But when she fibs to get a toy for his niece, Santa casts a spell that makes it impossible for her to lie—just in time for her to meet George’s entire family. Available now. 

14. 12 Pups of Christmas (2019)

There’s a classic rom-com plot: Erin (Charlotte Sullivan), a dog therapist, helps Martin (Donny Boaz), the owner of a dog GPS company, find homes for some dogs, and they fall for each other. But there are so many gratuitous shots of 12 puppies, you probably won’t even care about the love story. Available now.
