Kate and Charlotte’s matching outfits ‘highlight their close bond’ says royal fashion expert

The Royal Family delighted fans with their appearance at Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall for the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony, the annual military parade to mark the King’s official birthday, with the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte both wearing monochrome outfits – and there’s a special meaning behind these outfits, says our royal fashion expert.

Kate Middleton wore a white tailored Jenny Packham dress with a black trim to the event – the first time the Royal has been seen in public since her cancer diagnosis in January – paired with a matching Philip Treacy hat and pearl cluster earrings she had previously worn for Prince Louis’ christening.

Princess Charlotte, meanwhile wore an adorable navy-and-white sailor-style dress – and celebrity stylist and royal fashion expert Lynne McKenna explains the significance behind the similarity of these two outfits.

“Kate Middleton’s return to royal duties in a Jenny Packham dress with black trim is a masterclass in chic monochrome elegance,” says Lynne. “Her signature silhouette is flawlessly complemented by the streamlined cut of her dress elevated with a statement bow. Paired with a matching Philip Treacy hat and subtle jewellery, her look is reminiscent of her stunning appearance at the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.”

“Princess Charlotte’s navy and white monochrome outfit perfectly complements Kate’s subtle yet striking look, bringing their styling together beautifully for their first appearance since Kate’s diagnosis.

“The coordinated ensembles highlight their close bond and shared sense of fashion, making a powerful statement in Kate’s return to public life,” Lynne adds.

Jenny Packham is one of Kate’s favourite designers, with the Royal regularly wearing gowns and dress from the label for royal engagements.
