Box Office: ‘Dune 2’ Passes $700 Million Globally, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ Tops $500 Million Worldwide

A pair of Warner Bros. releases have achieved some important box office milestones.

“Dune: Part Two,” the acclaimed adaptation of Frank Herbert’s monumental sci-fi novel, has passed $700 million worldwide, while “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” the latest installment in the long-running monster franchise, eclipsed $500 million at the global box office. Both films were produced in partnership with Legendary Entertainment.

Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “We are also very proud of the work our global marketing and distribution teams have undertaken on behalf of ‘Dune: Part Two’ and ‘Godzilla x Kong’ – these box office milestones are a testament to their tremendous efforts.” 

As of Friday, “Dune: Part Two” has grossed $700.6 million worldwide — overseas markets contributed $422.3 million to the gross, with $278.3 million coming from domestic ticket sales. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” grossed more than $324.2 million internationally and $176.2 million domestically, leading to a combined global tally of $504 million.

Warner Bros.’ movies have grossed $1.7 billion worldwide this year, which has made it the leading studio in terms of market share. The studio released “Barbie,” the most successful movie of 2023, and will debut a sequel to “Beetlejuice” and the two-part Kevin Costner epic “Horizon” later this year. Next month brings the release of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” George Miller’s hotly anticipated prequel to 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
