The highlights
Last minute drama in Atlanta
Was for a closing stage between the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Football Team. Because Washington’s kicker Dustin Hopkins missed the additional point twice, Atlanta was leading 30:28 shortly before the end. But then came JD McKissic’s appearance.
At first it looked like Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke had missed the moment of play, but the patience paid off. He found his running back, who ran extremely spectacularly into the end zone.

Brady’s homecoming
One of the most exciting stories this week was Tom Brady’s homecoming to the Gillette Stadium New England Patriots. For the first time since joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he played away against the team with whom he won the Superbowl six times.
The return home was correspondingly emotional for the 44-year-old superstar. The whole stadium chanted his name before the game, but there were also boos during the game. And as befits Tom Brady, he broke a record in this game too. Even if he otherwise remained mostly pale, he set the all-time-passing-yard record with a 28-yard pass to Mike Evans and overtook Drew Brees.

The Buccaneers win because Patriots kicker Nick Folk missed the decisive field goal from 56 yards just before the end. Thanks to the win, Brady has now also beaten every NFL team at least once.

Double bills after
The Buffalo Bills are in an incredibly strong phase right now. After defeating the Miami Dolphins three weeks ago without admitting a point, they managed the next shutout against the Texans this week. It is the first time since 1990 that Buffalo has managed to do this twice in one season.

The Bills also benefited from a horror game by Davis Mills. The young quarterback Houstons not only received four interceptions, but also lost a ball to a fumble. In the end, the 22-year-old received a quarterback rating of 0.8 – the worst value in the league in three years.

Diggs digs up balls
The Carolina Panthers passed the first real endurance test of the Season not. Against the Dallas Cowboys it was a 28:36 defeat. The reason for this is quickly found: Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs had Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold under control. He intercepted two passes from his opponent and thus already has five interceptions in his account after four games – so he always prevented at least one pass in each game.
Wilson leads Jets to their first victory
The start of the NFL Zach Wilson’s career has been extremely difficult. But slowly but surely, the number 2 pick and quarterback of the New York Jets is getting into shape. Against the Tennessee Titans he led the team to their first win of the season with their best performance so far.
Wilson indicated his potential against the Titans in the third quarter when he found Keelan Cole with an extremely wide pass . But it got even better: With a fantastic 53-yard pass to Corey Davies, he set the course for victory in the final quarter. What is impressive about this throw is how the rookie directs his wide receiver into the right position.

Hills big show
After the last two defeats in a row, the Kansas City Chiefs kicked it again. Carried by a masterly Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs win the Philadelphia Eagles away with 42:30.
Hill and quarterback Patrick Mahomes had visibly in Philly Fun. Mahomes threw five touchdowns, finding Hill three times in the end zone. Hill himself caught eleven passes for a total of 186 yards.
Referee trouble and anniversary for “Big Ben”
Ben Roethlisberger still has it at 39 years of age. The quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers showed this early in the duel against the Green Bay Packers when he found Diontae Johnson. It was the 400th touchdown throw for “Big Ben”, making it the eighth player in NFL history to reach this mark.
Nevertheless, it was a 17:27 defeat for Roethlisberger in the end. The Steelers also quarreled with a decision by the referees. Shortly before the break, Minkah Fitzpatrick blocked a field goal attempt by Mason Crosby and ran over 75 yards for the touchdown. But the refs did not give the touchdown and decided on Joe Haden’s offside.
Certain infractions are easier to see from the field-level, but from the angles that I’ve seen of the field goal in # PITvsGB :

Burrow wins youngster duel
Already on Friday night there was a duel for the last two number 1 picks in the draft. Joe Burrow (number 1 draft 2020) and the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Jacksonville Jaguars with Trevor Lawrence (number 1 draft 2021) despite 0:14 deficit at the break at the end with 24:21.
Both talents played their roles well, but in the end the limelight belonged to a different rookie. Kicker Evan McPherson secured the Bengals victory shortly before the end with a field goal from 35 yards. It was McPherson’s second winning field goal in his fourth NFL game.

Steadfast Bronco
Despite three wins at the beginning of the season, dark clouds are gathering over the Denver Broncos. In the first real endurance test this season against the Baltimore Ravens, it was a clear 7:23 defeat. In addition, more and more team supports are dropping out due to injuries. This time it got quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and cornerback Patrick Surtain.
In general, only one Bronco was steadfast against the Ravens. Running back Javonte Williams could hardly be stopped early in the first quarter and only fell when the Ravens tried again to stop him.
The fact that the victory went to the Ravens in the end had something to do with Lamar Jackson. The Baltimore quarterback threw a staggering 316 passing yards. In the second quarter he found Marquise “Hollywood” Brown with a towering ball in the end zone and set the course for victory.
Lamar Jackson’s 49-yard TD pass to Marquise Brown traveled 60.8 yards in the air, Jackson’s longest completion of his career, and 2nd-longest by any QB this season.

That the 24-year-old scores mostly with passports is actually atypical for him. But it was clear to himself that he could also do this. “You said I couldn’t pass. It’s like saying that water is dry, “Jackson joked after the game.
Strange ball win
Even long-time employees have something like that Never seen NFL fans before. In the game between the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears, the Lions had the ball. But center Frank Ragnow played the snap earlier than quarterback Jared Goff, who was running forward at that very moment, expected it. So the ball jumped from Goff’s body directly into the hands of the Bears Defense. In the end, it set a 14:24 for the Lions, the fourth defeat in a row.
