Enjoy the adrenaline rush of netball!

If you haven’t tried netball, consider giving it a shot because it’s tons of fun! In this sport, two teams of seven players each try to land a ball in their team goal circle to score a goal. Players are assigned various positions that define their roles, which restrict each player’s playing area in the netball court. When a player receives a ball, that player has to pass or shoot the ball within three seconds.

Fancy a go? If you do, check out the Sports Hub Netball Academy, a programme launched in OCBC Arena Hall 3. The Sports Hub Netball Academy has three programmes catered to various age groups, which are conducted by professional coaches in a fully air-conditioned indoor sports hall that is equipped with shower facilities.

As one of the Sports Hub Netball Academy programmes, the Afterschool Netball programme is meant for all levels of players, aged 7 to 12 years old. This programme is meant for girls who want extra netball training or do not have netball as a co-curricular activity in school. It focuses on the basics of netball, agility, team play and game understanding, and participants will next be invited to compete in carnivals, leagues and friendly games.

Men and women aged 18 and above can consider joining the Social Netball programme, which comprises friendly and social training sessions that will keep participants fit and improve their netball skills. Held on Sunday mornings at 10am, each session lasts one and a half to two hours and starts with warm-ups and stretching, followed by continuous game play with rest periods, and concludes with cool-down stretching. After benefitting from guidance and pointers given by professional netball coaches, attendees of this programme too will have the opportunity to play at carnivals, leagues and friendly games.

Even moms can join in the fun! NetForMums invites netball enthusiasts between the ages of 35 and 55 to sign up for this programme. Designed to suit beginner to advanced level netball players, this inclusive programme encourages its players to socialise with like-minded individuals, so bring your colleagues, friends and family! Participants can choose to attend the weekday morning or weekday evening sessions.

All three programmes follow the school calendar and are divided into four terms each. Registration is by term and renewable quarterly. Players can join anytime unless the registration is closed.

If you’re interested in strengthening your netball techniques or learning how to play netball, we recommend the Social Netball programme and the NetForMums programme, which are led by experienced coaches. Work up a sweat, enjoy the physical and mental benefits of netball training and bond with friends and family when you sign up for the Sports Hub Netball Academy!
