Horror maestro, Stephen King, has treated his readers to several sensational novels in his long career. And for as long as he has written books, we’ve also had on-screen adaptations. Be it Carrie, IT, or The Shining, his books have made it to the big screen and are as popular. Even today, there are a number of King-related projects in the works. Among the ones that are already set to arrive in theatres is Blumhouse’s Firestarter.
The makers have released the trailer of the adaptation. Firestarter, starring Zac Efron, will premiere on Peacock and be in theaters on May 13th, 2022. The trailer looks intriguing and eerie to pique your attention.
Based on King’s 1980 novel and the 1984 original movie, the film follows Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), a young girl who develops pyrokinetic superpowers. The synopsis of the film reads that she is apprehended by a “shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction.” Sydney Lemmon and Efron will play the role of her parent’s in the film.

Talking about the horror film, the director of the film, Kevin Thomas, had once suggested, “I’m excited about doing a different, a new adaptation of the book, and getting into some things that the [1984] film didn’t—some things that I think are kind of core to what the book is. And at the same time, it’s both true to the story and true to the heart of the book, but at the same time we’re living in a different era than the early ’80s, and I think there’s a lot of stuff to explore in it that King obviously is hinting at throughout the book that I don’t see as much in the original film that I think we can really dive into.”
Michael Greyeyes, Gloria Reuben, Kurtwood Smith and John Beasley also star in pivotal roles. Directed by Thomas from a screenplay by Scott Teems, Firestarter is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and Akiva Goldsman for Weed Road Pictures.
