iPhone 13 vs iPhone 12. The whole truth

The iPhone 13 is already on sale and with the most reasonable price and size of the four new iPhones, it will probably also be the best seller, but how does it compare to its predecessor? There are some design changes with a smaller notch and a slight weight gain, but the most important improvements are on the inside, as the Apple increased the duration of the

battery, updated the cameras and gave us some other surprises. So where does the iPhone 13 stand out?

These are the main features that will define the new model and the differences with the predecessor.

Design and similar size, the iPhone 13 is heavier, although it has the same screen

size of 6.1″ , we have a Bionic Chipset A15 on iPhone 13 vs. Chipset A14 on iPhone 12 we have the same dual chambers (Wide and Ultra Wide) with some updates iPhone 13 keeps the size and style of iPhone 12.

The iPhone 13’s screen looks pretty much the same, but there are some minor changes. Size and resolution remain unchanged, but the slot is now 20% smaller (Apple didn’t do anything significant with the space that was made available, except that we have a larger space for time and battery icons). Another welcome change is an increase in brightness, as the 13 can reach 800 nits, compared to the maximum brightness of 625 in the 12, which makes outdoor viewing easier.

There are also some new colors, while some old colors have disappeared. For example, there is no longer a green model, but we got a pink version on the iPhone 13 that you can see above. The two cameras are now aligned diagonally instead of in a straight line.

The only more substantial change that can really stand out is that the iPhone 13 now weighs 174 grams, slightly above the 164 grams iPhone 12. It’s a subtle thing, but you can tell. What will probably not be so obvious is that the last phone is only slightly thicker, 7.65mm compared to 7.4mm.

Pro models with two cameras, but without the third, the zoom lens that we only have on the Pro models. The iPhone 13 follows this rule and also skips the telephoto lens, but brings an update for its two rear cameras.

Camera hardware on iPhone 13 and iPhone 12:

Wide camera – 12MP in both, 26mm, f/1.6 aperture in both Ultra- Wide – 12MP in either 0.5X or 13mm; f / 2.4 aperture in both chambers. We also have 12MP sensors, Apple says the main camera can now capture more light, up to 47% more, for better night shots.

In addition, we have a new OIS (optical) sensor image stabilization) for better stability. And the ultra-wide camera is able to show more details in shaded areas.

Similar to Portrait mode, but for video . The new iPhone will analyze videos in real time and blur the background for an effect called bokeh, leaving only the subject in focus.

While the first rumors claimed that the iPhone 13 would have a LiDAR scanner, the ultimate phone does not and this sensor is left only for the Pro models.

Performance, Apple A15 and Storage:

Double storage for the same price is great news. Apple uses its own A series of Chipsets for its iPhones and has been leading the market

in terms of performance in recent years, and that lead remains with the new Apple A15 Bionic processor.

The iPhone 13 has the same 4GB of RAM than the iPhone 12, but the base model already guarantees 128GB of storage, twice as much as its predecessor for the same price, and that’s a good thing. Apple’s A15 Chipset is built on 5nm technology, the same as last year, but has 15 billion transistors against 11.8 billion transistors on last year’s A14 Chipset.

According to the Benchmarks

there is a slight improvement in speed and analysts point out that this is probably due to the increased speed of the CPU from Apple for better single-core scores and cache boost that helps with multi-core results. For GPU performance, the most detailed is the 3D Mark Wildlife Stress test. This test not only shows the initial burst of speed, but holds the scene for 20 minutes and shows how the results vary. The GPU performance increase compared to the iPhone 12 is modest.

Finally, we have to mention that Apple offers 128GB of storage in the base model, twice the measly 64GB we used to have. on the iPhone 12 and that’s great, all for the same price. It also has a new 512GB model of the iPhone 13. The 12 used to be only available with a maximum of 256GB.

Battery and Charging

The iPhone 13 has a longer battery life, and although Apple doesn’t release battery capacity figures, available information points out that the iPhone 13 has a 3,227 cell. mAh versus 2,815 mAh on the iPhone 12, an increase of almost 15 percent in capacity. What Apple confirms is that we’ll average another 1.5 hours of battery life, and on closer scrutiny of Apple’s documents, we find that the iPhone 13 can now last 15 hours of uninterrupted video streaming, a big update compared to the 11 hours the iPhone 12 can support. These are official Apple numbers!

Apple “innovated” by not including a charger or headphones on the iPhone 12, and that innovation was carried over to the iPhone 13. Apple describes this as a decision in favor of the environment, but some say it is just a simple cost-cutting stratagem.
